Planning : Costume and Props

Costume is a very important part of the planning stage for a music video as the actors outfit needs to fit within the theme and genres of the music video that is being filmed for, for example a singer songwriter would often tend to be seen wearing vans and canvas style shoes, shirts for example plain or checkered and often a jacket over the shirt. It is also important that the outfit appeals target audience region for example teenagers of this region that would dress in a similar fashion therefore this would visually appeal to them.  However it has to be within a budget for example cheap but high quality products.

the images above are evidence of different styles and looks that i have researched on young males, there is 4 different styles ranging from smart to casual and easy.

Male actor:

Option 1: Shirt and jacket

in order to stick with the genre and style of acoustic music videos for the video sink or swim it would seem right for the male actor to also wear an outfit of a similar style this can be done through the shirt and jacket look which lewis Watson is seen wearing, all of the below styles that i have researched have been done on clothing sites on the internet.

this is a possible style that could be used within the music video by the male actor as it fits with the shirt/jacket them, it is also a very affordable option for the style. the shirt is also not too loose yet not too tight so a perfect fit.

another more simple and smarter shirt option for the male actor to be of possible use with a jacket in this simple singer songwriter look.

   

This is a possible option for the jacket to accompany the shirt the male actor will wear, although I'm not at all sure that this will be the elect colour that will be used but this is the appropriate style for the outfit.

Again this is another option that could be used for the costume of my male actor, this is a more appropriate example for colour as black can go with any colour shirt that i would pick.

Option 2: t shirt and hoodie:

the actor for this style will wear a plain non branded t shirt with a hoodie again, not yet sure on a set colour for the t shirt but any plain t shirt will fit the look.

For both of the options the male actor will wear skinny jeans:

within the video the male actor will wear skinny jeans more than likely black ones but the colour of the jeans will not have that much effect on the costume of the actor.

Female actor:

The images above are some of the research that i have done regarding the costume for the female actress that i have researched on the internet to help in deciding what costume the female actress will wear for the music video,

Option 1: Jumper and scarf

one possible option for the female actor is a plain colored knitted jumper to be accompanied by a plain scarf to complete and compliment the look.

this is a possible scarf option to accompany the jumper look, this specific scarf is checkered and with different colors this would go well with the jumper selected and isn't too expensive.

this is again another scarf option to accompany the jumper in the female actors look, this one however is a more plain simple colored option in most likely either grey or black.

Option 2: T-shirt and winter jacket

this is another option for the female actor a plain simplistic t shirt either long sleeve or short sleeve with a winter jacket, this certain option is a plain black long sleeved t shirt which will accompany a jacket.

this is another option for the female actor, a plain colored t shirt again to accompany a winter jacket/coat the color doesn't matter however it would need to be plain without logos and short sleeved.

this is the style of jacket that i have selected to accompany the t shirt that will be worn by the female actor, it will not matter which color the jacket is that will be worn but this is the select style.

In conclusion i will be going with option number 1 for the female actor which is the jumper/scarf combination with a red knitted jumper and a checkered scarf i think that this is the most appropriate choice as this style is very common among the target audience both age wise and the style that the viewers would go with and therefore would also appeal to the target audience all in a fairly reasonable price range. The male actor will be going with option 2 the t-shirt and hoodie, this is the most appropriate option for the actor being that this style is used highly amongst the target audience and is commonly worn amongst actors in this genre of music.

Props:
Props are a big part in the production and making of a music video, they will feature in my music video however not extremely prominetly during my video with there being few props that will feature   in my video.

my music video 'sink or swim' in the indie singer songwriter genre a common occurence is usually a guitar featuring amongst one of the actors mine being the male actor who plays the main part in the music video and he will be holding the guitar in his hands for when he is lip syncing to the song as this is a very common convention off the acoustic genre.

Guitars:

this guitar is another option for use in my music video with it being an electric acoustic guitar  which like with the genre of music however i do not feel that and electric version is necessary for the music video that i will be creating.

this is the option of guitar that i will most likely go with when  it comes to selecting one for use within the music video as it is an acoustic guitar and this type of guitar links heavily with the genre of the song being singer songwriter it is the obvious choice to go with.
